What is Cyst?

Firstly you have to know about more related to your problem Cyst is a closed sac like structure. Cysts may contain air, fluid or semisolid material although cysts can appear anywhere in the body, mostly the live in the skin, ovaries or kidneys. Most cysts are not cancerous.

What causes cysts?

Cysts are common and can occur anywhere on the body. They are often a result of infection, clogged sebaceous glands, or piercings.

Some other common causes of cysts include:

  • tumors
  • genetic conditions
  • a fault in an organ of a developing embryo
  • a defect in the cells
  • chronic inflammatory conditions
  • blockages of ducts in the body that cause fluids to build up
  • a parasite
  • an injury that breaks a vessel

What Signs or Symptoms may be Associated With a Cyst?

The majority of cysts are benign, but some can produce symptoms due to their size and/or location. The symptoms of a cyst depend on the location in the organ affected. For example, ovarian cysts, depending on the cause, can produce menstrual irregularities, pelvic pain and fullness, or painful intercourse. Cysts in the breasts may cause breast tenderness or breast lumps.

Rarely, cysts can be associated with malignant tumors (cancers) or serious infections. If you're concerned about any abnormal swelling or "lump," talk to a doctor. He or she can recommend appropriate diagnostic tests to determine the cause of the cyst.

What Types of Cysts Are There?

There are hundreds of types of cysts that can arise in the body. Some of the more well-known types of cysts are

  • epidermal inclusion cysts, small benign cysts of the skin
  • polycystic ovary syndrome, in which the ovaries contain multiple cysts
  • polycystic kidney disease, genetically inherited multiple cysts in the kidneys
  • cysts in the breast which are part of benign proliferative ("fibrocystic") disease (fibrocystic breast disease)
  • ovarian cysts
  • cysts within the thyroid gland, or other organs such as the liver, kidneys pancreas, testes, and ovaries;
  • dermoid cysts, benign tumors that contain a mix of tissue types
  • Baker cyst (popliteal cyst) behind the knee
  • ganglion cysts of the joints and tendons;
  • Bartholin cysts, which occur in the small glands that lubricate the vagina;
  • pilonidal cysts, cysts that occur on the skin near the cleft of the buttocks;
  • cysts that occur in the skin as part of acne (cystic acne);
  • cysts of the glands within the eyelid, termed chalazions;
  • sebaceous cysts of the small glands in the skin.

Treatments for cysts

The treatment options for a cyst will depend on a range of factors, including the type of cyst, where it is, its size, and the degree of discomfort it is causing.
Sometimes, a health professional may examine the removed liquid under a microscope to determine whether or not any cancerous cells are present. If they suspect that the cyst is cancerous, they may suggest surgical removal, order a biopsy of the cyst wall, or both.
However, large cysts can result in symptoms due to compression of normal tissue and obstruction of ducts. Some of these cysts can be treated by simply aspirating the cyst contents through a needle or catheter, thereby collapsing the cyst. Other cysts require surgical removal.
medical treatment is usually limited to reducing associated symptoms of their underlying cause(s). Individuals should discuss with their doctors about the best methods to use to get rid of their cysts.

What are home remedies for cysts?

  • Hot compress:- Simple heat is the most recommended and effective home measure for draining or shrinking cysts.
  • Tea Tree oil:- Essential oil from the tea tree (Melaleuca alternifolia) may help some cysts, albeit in an indirect way. Research shows tea tree oil has antimicrobial activity. This means it kills bacteria, viruses, fungi, and other pathogens.
  • Apple cider vinegar:- It is another recommended natural remedy. It may help with cysts to a limited extent. There are no studies showing apple cider vinegar reduces cysts or removes them.
  • Aloevera:- Research shows that aloevera has confirmed anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties. Both may help with pain and irritation in cysts. Aloevera may also help reduce appearance or get rid of certain cysts caused by bacteria or other pathogens.
